daily monastic life

Daily life at Camaldoli unfolds according to modality and rhythms that respect a scale of priorities for the community.
Simplicity of style and informality in mutual relationships express obedience to the veryday reality of shared commitments. Moderation-as St. Benedict affirms-does not discourage the weak and stimulates those who can do more.

Faith, hope and love shared in fraternity confer their transcendent spirit on daily living, enriching it with a simple and freeing symbolical dimension.

The communal celebratin of the liturgy of the hours and eucharist, nourished by personal lectio divina, are strategically placed throughout the day. They constitute a precise structure of reference to the rhythm of communal life and of each monk, and indicate what kind of spirit is lived in a daily flow of prayer, work, rest, services, and relations.

Work activities of the monks provide the normal necessities for a large enough community, composed of old and young with different needs vis-s-vis assistance and formation (human, spiritual and theological).
During the scholastic year, the professed in formation reside at the monastery of St. Gregory al Celio in rome, In this context, they join normal communal life to academic needs, availing themselves of the possibilities offered by the Benedictines of St. Anslem's, as well as other philosophical and theological faculties.

The community shares economic resources with those of recent foundation in India and Brazil, and fulfils an annual quota of the communal budget to support projects promoted for the poor.

A sober lifestyle still lived within historical structures tries to become wise, full of humanity and evangelical simplicity that lies within the Benedictine profram of Ora et Labora (prayer and work). Hermitage and monastery, sharing resources, have their own rhythms and balances, in harmony with the priorities each ambient of life offers monks and guest, according to the spirit of Camaldoli.

Helping older brethren has become in these years an evangelically significant aspect of communal life. A medical doctor/brother guarantees professional health standards in the infirmary. To allow the elderly to live in a climate of communal relationships, with serenity and spiritual support. It helps give the community a character of normal humanity even in the acceptance of sickness and old age that so many families no longer enjoy in the social order.
